THE STORY

In a world devastated by the Signal—an alien force that feeds on human fear and despair—the Bastion is humanity's last refuge. Behind its walls, fifteen thousand survivors fight for survival every single day.

When a young man named Kiran establishes a connection to an ancient starship, everything changes. He is the first Operator in ten thousand years—the only one who can harness the technology of the long-vanished Offworld civilization.

THE LAST BASTION is an epic saga about courage in the darkness, about what makes us human, and about the belief that tomorrow can be better than today—if we're willing to fight for it.

PROLOGUE

The Sixth Category of Fear

The Galactic Council had a category for everything. For plagues. For rebellions. For economic instability. For cultural degeneration. For military threats. Five drawers into which one could sort the universe while sitting in air-conditioned conference rooms, drinking tea that tasted of power and mild boredom.

The sixth category they had never published.

Internally, they called it simply "The Signal"—two words that sat in the Council's most secure protocols like a scar no one wanted to touch. No cold fusion. No biological weapon. No fleet of warships. The Signal was something worse: a semantic anomaly. An enemy that didn't first take over the body, but the meaning.

Imagine pressing a button labeled "Open." You know what "Open" means. You've known it your whole life. But in the moment of pressing, something in your deepest rational core suddenly understands that "Open" actually means "Close." Or "Burn yourself." Or "Destroy the planet."

And the worst part: It feels right. Logical. Inevitable.

That was the Signal.
